The Challenge: Take Pride Winnipeg, a dedicated organization tackling Winnipeg's cleanliness issues, needed a website refresh. Their existing site lacked cohesion and direction, failing to effectively engage a crucial demographic: young people.
The Goal:Revamp Take Pride Winnipeg's website to resonate with a youthful target audience passionate about taking action for a cleaner Winnipeg. The design needed to streamline access to information like events, news, and volunteer opportunities.
User Research & Inspiration:
To understand best practices, I delved into websites like Earth Day Network, WWF, and local wildlife sanctuaries. Analyzing their social media presence and website design provided valuable insights into navigation, information prioritization, and overall user experience. Ideation & Design Exploration:
This phase involved exploring engaging approaches and color palettes to capture the target audience's interest. I experimented with various wireframing techniques, using abstract shapes, unconventional layouts, and contrasting formal and informal styles with both serif and sans-serif fonts.
The Solution:
Visual Identity: The final design featured an eye-catching green color scheme paired with impactful imagery and text. The website conveys Take Pride Winnipeg's commitment to environmental responsibility and its focus on empowering individuals and fostering community collaboration.
Responsiveness: To ensure accessibility across devices, I created mobile, tablet, and desktop-optimized versions of the landing page, culminating in a fully functional prototype.
In conclusion, this project solidified the importance of a well-developed wireframe as the foundation for a successful website design. Understanding and incorporating user preferences is crucial for crafting a website that resonates with its intended audience.
A clear understanding of the brand's core values and mission is essential in creating a design that effectively communicates that message.
